This
is the website of Women for Women International, a global
organisation dedicated to empowering women survivors of war and
conflict. Their mission is to foster sustainable change by equipping
women, their families, and communities with essential skills,
knowledge, and resources.
Founded
in 1993 by Zainab Salbi—recognised by People Magazine as one of the
"25 Women Changing the World"—and Amjad Atallah, this
organisation has expanded from its roots in Washington, D.C., to
establish offices in London, UK, Hamburg, Germany, and several
countries, including Afghanistan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the
Democratic Republic of Congo, Iraq, Kosovo, Nigeria, Rwanda, and
South Sudan.
Since
its inception, Women for Women International has supported over
400,000 female survivors of war across eight conflict zones. They
provide training in vocational skills, financial literacy, and health
education, enabling women to earn a living, enhance their well-being,
and support their families. By joining a supportive network, women
can share their experiences, learn from one another, and build
resilience. The organisation also offers financial assistance,
including stipends for food, clothing, water, and shelter.
Additionally, women are educated about their rights and learn to
advocate for themselves and their communities, with programmes that
address both physical and mental health, including trauma-informed
counselling.
Women for Women International also works alongside
local partners to address the pressing needs of women affected by
crises, such as the war in Ukraine and the COVID-19 pandemic. They
provide essential aid, including food, water, hygiene kits,
psychosocial support, and legal assistance.
On this website, you
have access to a wealth of resources. You can read articles and news,
listen to podcasts, attend events, join campaigns, and explore
volunteer and career opportunities.
In summary this website
offers insights into international humanitarian law and women’s
rights, opportunities to engage in meaningful volunteer work, and
ways to support legal initiatives aimed at protecting and empowering
women. Women for Women International stands as a beacon, bridging the
gap for women affected by conflict. Their unwavering dedication to
education, economic empowerment, and sisterhood has the power to
transform lives. This is a space where your legal aspirations can
align with a greater purpose, contributing to a global movement that
empowers women and fosters lasting change.
