Aspiring Barristers

This is the website of Aspiring Barristers, an organisation dedicated to supporting student barristers from underrepresented groups within the legal profession. Their mission is to dismantle barriers and create a more diverse and accessible pathway to the Bar. Founded in 2017 by Dr Faiza Javad and Alice Flett, they are passionate about fostering inclusivity and providing equal opportunities for all aspiring barristers.

At Aspiring Barristers, you will find a cohesive support network, from seasoned Q.C.s to Bar students and graduates, that embraces individuals irrespective of race, ethnicity, age, sexual orientation, disability, class, sex, gender, or creed. This way they actively promote diversity initiatives across the legal profession. By fostering an inclusive environment, they ensure that talented aspiring barristers have equal opportunities to succeed.

This website is a valuable resource where you can find various opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge. You can attend seminars on relevant topics and issues, join networking and social events to meet fellow aspiring barristers and experienced practitioners, and enter their two annual essay competitions to showcase your writing and research abilities. You may also join the Book Club to discuss books related to law and justice, become an Aspiring Barristers Legal Content Writer to contribute articles and insights to the website, and read their annual Online Journal and submit entries to share your views and perspectives.

Additionally, you can participate in their Mentoring Scheme, where you will be paired with a volunteer barrister for a six-month mentorship and apply for their annual Aspiring Barristers’ Mini-Pupillage Scheme, where you will have the chance to shadow a barrister and gain practical experience. Thanks to these schemes you can gain personalised guidance and practical experience, vital for your development in the legal profession.

Please note that Aspiring Barristers has no association or involvement with Aspiring Solicitors.

In summary, Aspiring Barristers is a community dedicated to dismantling barriers and fostering diversity within the legal profession. By engaging with this website, you are taking a significant step towards a more inclusive and accessible path to the Bar, where your background and personal circumstances are seen as strengths, not obstacles. Embrace the opportunities offered here, and you will be well-equipped to pursue your legal ambitions with confidence and support.
