This
is the website of Bridging the Bar (BTB), a
charitable organisation dedicated to increasing equality of access to
opportunities within the legal profession as it is specifically designed to support those from underrepresented backgrounds at the Bar. It was founded in 2020 by Mass
Ndow-Njie.
BTB offers assistance to students from diverse
backgrounds, including those with disabilities, varied ethnicities,
different socio-economic statuses, unique educational experiences,
and various sexual orientations.
One of BTB's key initiatives
is the Bridging the Bar Academy, which provides transformative
pathways to pupillage. The Academy is pivotal in helping 100
high-quality BTB candidates gain the skills, practical experience,
and mindset necessary to secure pupillage—the final stage of
barrister training—and succeed at the Bar.
Collaborating with
over 70 chambers, 26 sponsorship partners, and more than 300
barristers and members of the judiciary, BTB is working towards a
more inclusive legal profession. These collaborations are vital in
realising BTB’s vision of a Bar where everyone, regardless of
background, has an equal chance to thrive.
If
you explore the
#IAmTheFutureOfTheBar campaign, launched by BTB in
partnership with the Bar Council you will
discover inspiring stories from aspiring barristers who share their
personal journeys and dreams.
In
conclusion, this
website is not just about offering information; it's about creating a
supportive community and a more equitable future for the legal
profession. By engaging with BTB, you are taking a crucial step
towards achieving your aspirations in law, in a profession that
values diversity and inclusivity.
